What Happened
The side airbag in your vehicle is designed to protect you in the event of a crash. However, in some cases, the inflator that propels the airbag can break away from its housing during deployment.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, the airbag won't work properly, leaving you more vulnerable in a crash. It's also possible that sharp fragments could fly out and hit a rear seat passenger's foot, causing injury.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the airbag module to ensure it works correctly in the event of an accident. This repair is completely free of charge.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES EXHIBIT A CONDITION IN WHICH THE DRIVER SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG INFLATOR SEPARATES FROM THE AIR BAG MODULE DURING DEPLOYMENT.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
IF THE INFLATOR SEPARATES, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY DURING A CRASH AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION WOULD BE REDUCED. IF IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT A SEPARATED INFLATOR COULD BE PROPELLED DOWNWARD AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO A REAR SEAT PASSENGER WHOSE FOOT IS POSITIONED APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE INFLATOR MODULE.
