What Happened
The head-thorax air bag in your 430i or M440i 4 Series Convertible helps protect you in side-impact crashes. In some cases, this air bag may not inflate correctly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag doesn't deploy as it should in a side crash, you could be at higher risk of injury. This could lead to more severe harm than if the air bag had worked properly.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software controlling the air bag system, ensuring it works correctly, at no cost to you. Schedule the update as soon as you can, and don't hesitate to contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 if you have any questions.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2021 430i and M440i 4 Series Convertible vehicles. In certain side-impact crashes, the head-thorax air bag may not deploy as intended.

Dealers will update the software, at no charge. All affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory, and therefore no owner letters will be mailed. The recall began March 9, 2021. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
