Component
ENGINE
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The engine management system in your vehicle is a computer that helps control the engine. In some 2020-2021 BMW models, this system could misbehave when you start the engine, causing the brake assist to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake assist fails, you could struggle to slow down or stop your vehicle, especially on steep hills or during hard braking. This could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the engine management software to fix the issue, and this repair is completely free. You can schedule the update as soon as you get the recall notice, and you can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 for more information.
