Component
AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW:HEAD
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The side and window head air bag in your vehicle is a safety device that inflates in a crash to protect your head. In some affected 2014-2015 BMW models, the inflator that makes the air bag deploy could fail at the welds, causing gas to leak or the inflator to rupture.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator ruptures, it could shoot sharp metal fragments into the vehicle, putting you at risk of serious injury. If it leaks, the air bag might not inflate properly in a crash, also increasing the risk of injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty head air bags with new, safe ones at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice, and you can contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 if you have any questions.
