Component
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:AUXILLARY TANK
Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The auxiliary fuel tank in your i8 is a smaller tank that provides extra fuel for extended driving. A critical bolt that holds it in place might not have been welded properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the bolt fails, fuel can leak from the tank, and if an ignition source is nearby, it could cause a fire. This is a serious risk because fuel fires can spread quickly and be difficult to control.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the bolt and replace the fuel tank if necessary, all at no cost to you. They'll schedule the repair when they contact you with the recall notice.
