What Happened
The software that controls the electric motor in your vehicle manages how the car moves. In certain models, this software can cause the motor to shut down, losing your vehicle's power.
Risk if Unfixed
If the software fails, you'll lose power to your vehicle – you won't be able to move. This could lead to a crash, especially if you're on the road.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software in your vehicle's electric motor for free. You won't need to bring your car in – the update will be done remotely through an over-the-air update, or your dealer can do it for you if you prefer. You'll be notified by mail when it's time to have this done.

Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty battery cell modules with new ones, at no cost to you. You'll receive a notice once the fix is available, and you should schedule the repair as soon as you can.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ADAS:DRIVER MONITORING:CAMERA/SENSOR

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The hands-on detection system in your vehicle uses a camera and sensor to make sure you're keeping your hands on the wheel while driving. In some 2023-2024 BMW models, the connection to this system might not have been installed correctly, which could cause problems.
Risk if Unfixed
If the hands-on detection system isn't working, it might not detect when your hands are off the wheel. This could prevent the emergency stopping assistant system from engaging, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW dealer will check the connection and fix it if needed, free of charge. You'll get a notification letter, but you can also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to schedule the repair.
