Component

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION MOTOR:CONTROLLER:SOFTWARE

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The software that runs your electric drive motor is like the brain of your car's electric powertrain. It's the system that makes your i4, IX, I7, or I5 move. In some 2022-2025 models, this software could fail and shut down the high-voltage system.
Risk if Unfixed
If the software fails, your car's electric power will suddenly stop working. This means you won't be able to accelerate or brake, which could increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the software for your electric drive motor, and it's completely free. They'll do this either over-the-air or by visiting the dealership, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The high-voltage battery in your i4 or i5 eDrive40 is a critical part that powers your vehicle's electric motor. In some 2024 models, the welding on this battery might not be strong enough, which could cause it to overheat.
Risk if Unfixed
If the battery overheats, it could catch fire, posing a serious risk to your safety and the safety of others nearby.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the high-voltage battery module with a safer, more reliable one at no cost to you. Just schedule the repair when you receive the recall notice.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ADAS:DRIVER MONITORING:CAMERA/SENSOR

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The camera and sensor in your vehicle are there to make sure you're paying attention to the road. In some 2023-2024 models, the connection for this system wasn't attached properly.
Risk if Unfixed
If this system isn't working, it could fail to detect when your hands aren't on the wheel, which means the safety system that stops your vehicle in emergencies won't work. This increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check and reattach the connection to fix the issue, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
