What Happened
The EGR valve in your 540d xDrive is responsible for controlling exhaust gases. Over time, it can develop a leak that lets diesel soot mix with coolant, creating a smoldering risk.
Risk if Unfixed
If the EGR valve fails and soot mixes with coolant, it could cause your intake manifold to melt, increasing the risk of a fire in your engine compartment.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect and replace the EGR module and intake manifold if necessary, all at no cost to you. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible after receiving the recall notice.

BMW of North America, LLC. (BMW) is recalling certain 540d xDrive vehicles that were previously repaired under recall number 22V-614. The exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler may leak internally, causing coolant to mix with diesel engine soot, which could result in smoldering particles and a melting intake manifold.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

What Happened
The rearview camera in your vehicle is the part that shows you what's behind you when you're reversing. In some models, the camera settings can get stuck, so the image doesn't show up when you're in reverse.
Risk if Unfixed
If the camera image doesn't appear when you're backing up, you might not see obstacles or pedestrians behind you, increasing the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealership will update the camera software for free, so you can get a clear view behind your vehicle when you're reversing. This repair is on the house, and you'll be notified when it's time to schedule the update.
