What Happened
The starter motor in your vehicle is what turns the engine on. In certain models, it can overheat and catch fire due to wear and tear on a small internal part.
Risk if Unfixed
If the starter motor overheats, it could cause a fire inside the engine compartment. This increases the risk of serious injury from the fire.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty starter motor with a new one, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice, which is expected to be mailed on August 28, 2026.

What Happened
The starter assembly in your vehicle is the part that gets your engine running. In some 2021-2024 models, the internal component can wear out and cause the starter to overheat.

What Happened
The starter relay in your vehicle is like a switch that helps start the engine. In certain 2019-2022 models, this relay can corrode and overheat, causing a short circuit.
Risk if Unfixed
If the starter relay overheats and shorts, it could cause a fire, which could lead to serious damage or injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty starter relay for free. Meanwhile, please park your vehicle in an open area, away from buildings and other flammable materials, until the repair is done.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2021 BMW 330i, 2019-2022 BMW Z4, 2020-2022 BMW 530i, X3, X4, Toyota Supra, 2021-2022 BMW 430i, 430i Convertible, and 2022 BMW 230i vehicles. The engine starter relay may corrode, causing the relay to overheat and short circuit.

What Happened
The 48-Volt battery in your vehicle is a specialized battery that helps your car's engine and features like start-stop technology. In certain 2021 models, the connection to the starter-generator may not have been assembled correctly, causing a problem with electricity flow.
Risk if Unfixed
If the connection isn't working right, it could cause a fire in your vehicle.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will check the connection between the 48-Volt battery and the starter-generator and replace it if needed, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

The connection between the 48-Volt battery and the starter-generator may not have been assembled properly, which can cause increased electrical resistance at the connections.
