ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The crankshaft sensor in your vehicle is a computer chip that helps your engine run smoothly. In some 2018-2019 BMW models, this sensor might be programmed with incorrect information, which could cause it to misread the engine's signals.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your engine could stall without warning while you're driving, which increases the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will swap out the faulty crankshaft sensor with a new one, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice from BMW.

AIR BAGS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The head air bags in your vehicle are designed to protect you and your passenger in the event of a crash. In certain 2017-2018 models, long exposure to high humidity could weaken the air bag inflators, making them less reliable.
Risk if Unfixed
If you're in a severe crash, the head air bag might not deploy correctly, or the igniter could break away from the inflator. This could lead to serious head and neck injuries.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the head air bag on either the driver or passenger side, at no cost to you. Schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The back-up camera system in your vehicle is the part that shows you a live image of what's behind your car when you're in reverse. In some BMW models, this system can be adjusted to show nothing, and it might remember that setting next time.
Risk if Unfixed
If your back-up camera display is blank while you're reversing, you won't have a clear view of what's behind you. This increases the risk of a crash, especially when reversing into a parking space or driveways.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will update the back-up camera software to ensure the display shows the correct image when you're in reverse - at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
