What Happened
The knee air bag in your vehicle is a safety feature that deploys to cushion your legs in case of a crash. In some 2019-2020 BMW models, the air bag may have been assembled incorrectly.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag doesn't deploy properly, it could fail to protect you in a crash, increasing the risk of serious injury to your legs or lower body.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty knee air bag module with a new one, free of charge. You'll be notified when the repair is ready, and you can schedule it at your convenience.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2019-2020 230i, 230i xDrive, M240i, M240i xDrive, M2 Competition Coupe, 430i, 430i xDrive, 440i, 440i xDrive, M4, and 2019 330i xDrive Sportswagon vehicles. The driver and passenger knee air bag assemblies may have been improperly folded and assembled.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
An improperly folded and assembled air bag may not deploy as intended, increasing risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the knee air bag modules, free of charge. The recall began July 8, 2019. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The front passenger air bag in your vehicle is a safety feature that helps protect you in case of a crash. In some 2019 BMW models, the air bag's inflator might not work correctly, which could affect how it deploys.

The front passenger air bag inflator may have been incorrectly manufactured, potentially affecting the air bag deployment performance in the event of a crash.
