AIR BAGS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
There's a small part inside your vehicle's seat that helps the side airbag deploy in a crash, called the air bag inflator initiator. In some 2017 BMW models, this part might not work correctly.
Risk if Unfixed
If it fails, the side airbag won't be able to protect you in a crash, which could lead to serious injury.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the air bag module with a new one that's designed to work properly, and this repair is completely free. You'll get a notification when it's time to schedule the repair.

AIR BAGS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The seat-mounted air bag in your vehicle is designed to deploy in a crash to protect you. In some 2016-2017 models, a small part inside the air bag could fail to ignite, which would prevent the air bag from deploying.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag doesn't deploy, you're at a higher risk of serious injury in a collision. This is because the air bag helps cushion the impact of the crash, reducing the force on your body.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty air bag module with a new one, completely free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.
