AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The driver's airbag in your vehicle is a safety device that deploys in a crash to cushion your head and neck. Unfortunately, the airbag in some 2013-2015 BMW models might not work properly due to a manufacturing defect.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag inflates, it could explode and send sharp metal fragments flying into the driver or other passengers, which could cause serious injury or even be fatal.
Free Fix
Your local BMW dealer will replace the faulty airbag with a safe one at no cost to you. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible, especially since you've already received a recall notice.

AIR BAGS:SIDE/WINDOW

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The side and window airbags in your 2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series, or 4 Series Gran Coupe are designed to protect you in a crash. The airbag inflator is the part that fills the airbag with gas when it deploys, but in some models, the weld joint can fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the airbag inflator ruptures, it could send sharp metal pieces into the passenger compartment, putting you at risk of serious injury. Or, if it leaks gas, the airbag might not inflate properly in a crash, also putting you at risk.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the faulty airbags for you, at no cost. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice in the mail.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2014-2015 2 Series Coupe (228i, 228i xDrive, M235i), 3 Series Sedan (320i, 320i xDrive, 328i, 328i xDrive, 335i, 335i xDrive, M3, 328d, 328d xDrive), 4 Series Coupe (428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive, M4), and 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe (428i, 428i xDrive, 435i, 435i xDrive) vehicles. The head air bag inflator may fail at the weld joint, which can cause gas to leak from the inflator or result in an inflator rupture.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
An inflator that ruptures may cause sharp metal fragments to enter or exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury. Additionally, an inflator that leaks gas may only partially inflate during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Original — Remedy
Dealers will replace the head air bags, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed November 4, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
