AIR BAGS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The passenger air bag in your vehicle is a critical safety feature that deploys in a crash to protect you and your passengers. Unfortunately, in certain 2002-2003 models, this air bag might inflate with too much force, causing the metal container to break apart.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens in a crash, metal shards could fly into the passenger seat and cause serious injury to anyone sitting there, or even to other people in the vehicle.
Free Fix
Don't drive your vehicle until you get a new air bag. BMW will notify you in June and then replace the faulty air bag for free once replacement parts arrive in July. You should contact your dealer to schedule the repair as soon as possible.
