Component

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY

Manufacturer
VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC
What Happened
The fuel tank in your Audi A6 or Allroad has a small plastic valve that helps prevent fuel spills in a rollover. Over time, this valve can crack due to stress and aging, which could cause a fuel leak.
Risk if Unfixed
If the valve cracks and a fuel leak happens, and there's an ignition source nearby, it could ignite the fuel and cause a fire.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will fix or reinforce the cracked valve to prevent the leak, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING 68,240 MY 2001-2004 AUDI A6 QUATTRO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.7L, 2.8L, OR 3.0L ENGINES AND MY 2001-2005 ALLROAD QUATTRO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.7L OR 4.2L ENGINES. IF THIS HAPPENS, A FUEL LEAK MAY RESULT.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE COULD LEAD TO A VEHICLE FIRE.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REINFORCE THE NIPPLE ON THE ROLLOVER VALVE TO PREVENT LEAKAGE OR REPAIR THE CRACKING AT THE NIPPLE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 27, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-822-2834.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Manufacturer
VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC
What Happened
The connector in your vehicle's headlight switch could be causing a short circuit. This is happening in some vehicles with halogen low beam headlights.
Risk if Unfixed
If this short circuit happens, it could cause your headlight to overheat or even catch fire, which could lead to a serious accident.
Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will fix this by adding a jumper wiring harness to the wiring harness, and this repair is completely free. You should schedule the repair as soon as possible.

Original — What Happened
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH HALOGEN LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, CERTAIN CONNECTOR PINS IN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH CONNECTOR COME INTO CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER CAUSING A SHORT CIRCUIT. NOTE: VEHICLES WITH XENON LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT AFFECTED BECAUSE THE CIRCUIT IN THESE VEHICLES CONTAINS A FUSE, WHICH PRECLUDES EXCESSIVE CURRENT FLOW IN THE CASE OF A SHORT CIRCUIT. AUDI S6 AND S6 AVANT VEHICLES ARE ALL EQUIPPED WITH XENON LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS AND, THEREFORE, ARE NOT LONGER AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THIS CONDITION COULD LEAD TO OVERHEATING OR FIRE.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REROUTE THE WIRING HARNESS BY INSTALLING A JUMPER WIRING HARNESS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 16, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT AUDI AT 1-800-822-2834.

Free Fix
Your Audi dealer will add a protective covering to the knee bolster, check the wiring harness, and replace it if needed. This repair is free, and you should schedule it as soon as you can.
