What Happened
The anti-theft system in your vehicle is a computer that helps prevent theft by controlling the ignition. It's located on the shift lever and can be damaged by silicate buildup, which can let you remove the key from the ignition even if the transmission isn't in 'Park'.
Risk if Unfixed
If you remove the key while the shift lever is in anything other than 'Park', your vehicle could roll away, possibly causing injury or a crash.
How to Get This Fixed
Free Fix
Your Volkswagen dealer will add a new switch and circuit board to prevent this issue, all for free. When you get the recall notice, schedule an appointment to have it done.
