What Happened
The front driveshaft is like a long rod that connects your transmission to the wheels on the front of your vehicle. In some 2011-2014 X5 and X6 models, water and debris can sneak in and rub against the joint that connects these parts, causing it to wear out.
Risk if Unfixed
If the front driveshaft's joint fails, you might lose power to the front wheels, making it harder to steer and control your vehicle. Driving on a broken driveshaft could also damage other parts, which could make the problem worse and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will replace the front driveshaft with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule this repair as soon as possible when you get the recall notice.
