ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE
What Happened
The engine's front valve cover is a protective shield around the top of your engine. In some 1998-2004 GM vehicles, it may not be sealing correctly, letting engine oil drip onto the hot exhaust system.
Risk if Unfixed
If oil drips onto the hot exhaust, it could catch fire, even if you're not driving. This could cause a fire in your vehicle, which can be a serious safety risk.
Free Fix
Your GM dealer will replace the faulty front valve cover and gasket for free. They'll use a new design to ensure a tighter seal and prevent oil from leaking onto the exhaust. It's a free repair, and you should schedule it as soon as possible.
