STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
What Happened
The steering torque sensor in your Tribute is like a messenger that tells your power steering system how you're steering. But in some 2008-2011 models, this sensor might not be sending the right messages.
Risk if Unfixed
If the sensor fails, you'll need to work harder to steer at low speeds, which could increase the risk of a crash — especially in tight spaces like parking lots or intersections.
Free Fix
Your Mazda dealer will update the software in your vehicle's power steering and instrument cluster systems for free. If there are any problems with the sensor or the power steering control module, they'll replace those parts for you too, at no cost.
