Component
SEAT BELTS:REAR/OTHER
What Happened
The seat belt assemblies in your Highlander's third row seats have a special feature that locks the belt in place so you can safely use a child restraint system. However, in your vehicle, this feature might not work properly when certain child seats are installed.
Risk if Unfixed
If your child's seat belt doesn't lock properly, it could spool out during normal driving, affecting the stability of the child restraint. This could discourage you from using a child restraint, and in a crash, your child might not be adequately protected, which could lead to injury.
Free Fix
Your Toyota dealer will replace the faulty seat belt component with a new, improved one at no cost to you. This repair should be scheduled as soon as you receive the recall notice, expected to start on or about December 18, 2008.
