What Happened
Your Elantra's driver's air bag is a critical safety feature that deploys in a crash to protect you. However, in some 2015-2016 models, the inflator that makes the air bag work could burst apart, sending sharp metal fragments flying.
Risk if Unfixed
If the air bag inflator ruptures, it could shoot sharp metal pieces at you or your passengers, leading to serious injury or even death.

Your Hyundai dealer will inspect and replace the faulty air bag inflator, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice and contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 if you have any questions.

Original — What Happened
Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2015-2016 Elantra and 2016 Elantra GT vehicles. The driver's air bag inflator may rupture during deployment.

Dealers will inspect and replace the air bag inflator, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 13, 2026. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 300. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on May 16, 2026.
