What Happened
Your vehicle's engine control unit (ECU) software may need to be updated to prevent the hybrid system's electric motor from moving your vehicle unexpectedly when the engine stalls.
Risk if Unfixed
If the engine stalls and the vehicle moves unexpectedly, it could increase the risk of a crash or personal injury to people in the path of the moving vehicle.
Free Fix
Honda will notify you and update the ECU software for free at a dealership. You can contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009 to schedule an appointment.

Original — What Happened
HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 CR-Z PASSENGER CARS WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS, MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 8, 2010, THROUGH JUNE 27, 2011. SHOULD THE ENGINE STALL WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT PRESSED, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT (ECU) SOFTWARE MAY CAUSE THE ELECTRIC MOTOR OF THE HYBRID SYSTEM TO MOVE THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE SELECTED GEAR.

What Happened
The driver's side airbag in your vehicle is equipped with a faulty inflator that could cause a catastrophic failure. This inflator is responsible for deploying the airbag in the event of a crash to protect you.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator explodes, it could send sharp metal fragments hurtling towards you, which could result in serious injury or even death.
Free Fix
Honda will replace the faulty airbag inflator with a new, safe one, at no cost to you. Your dealer will complete the repair free of charge, so be sure to schedule it as soon as possible.

These vehicles are equipped with driver frontal air bag inflators assembled as a recall remedy part or replacement service part, that may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
