What Happened
Your vehicle has a side impact air bag that helps protect you in a crash. In some cases, the part that inflates the air bag can break away from the rest of the system while it's deploying.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, the air bag won't work properly to cushion you in a crash, reducing your protection. It's also possible that a piece of the air bag could break off and hit a rear seat passenger's foot, causing injury.
Free Fix
Your dealer will replace the entire side impact air bag module with a new one, at no cost to you. This is a free repair, and you should schedule it as soon as you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. SOME OF THESE VEHICLES EXHIBIT A CONDITION IN WHICH THE DRIVER SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG INFLATOR SEPARATES FROM THE AIR BAG MODULE DURING DEPLOYMENT.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
IF THE INFLATOR SEPARATES, THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY PROPERLY DURING A CRASH AND OCCUPANT PROTECTION WOULD BE REDUCED. IF IS ALSO POSSIBLE THAT A SEPARATED INFLATOR COULD BE PROPELLED DOWNWARD AND COULD RESULT IN INJURY TO A REAR SEAT PASSENGER WHOSE FOOT IS POSITIONED APPROXIMATELY UNDER THE INFLATOR MODULE.
Original — Remedy
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG MODULE.
