Component
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
Manufacturer
GENERAL MOTORS CORP.
What Happened
The airbag on the driver's side is a safety device that deploys in a crash to cushion the impact. It has a small component called the inflator that could fracture and break apart during deployment.
Risk if Unfixed
If the inflator breaks, sharp pieces could hit you or other passengers, and the airbag won't inflate properly. This means it won't be able to protect you as well as it should in a crash.
Free Fix
Your dealer will inspect the driver's side airbag module and replace it if it needs to be fixed, at no cost to you. You should schedule the repair as soon as you get the recall notice, and if you have any issues, contact the manufacturer at the phone number listed.
