Component

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The fuel injectors in your M2 or M4 Coupe are responsible for squirting fuel into your engine. In some 2020-2021 models, they might not have a special damping component that helps them work smoothly, leading to damage over time.
Risk if Unfixed
If the connection between the fuel line and fuel rail gets damaged, you could be at risk of a fuel leak. If that leak happens near a spark, it could start a fire.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will inspect the fuel injectors and replace them with new ones, along with the fuel rail, at no cost to you. Just schedule a visit when you get the recall notice.

Original — What Happened
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2020-2021 M2 Coupe and 2020 M4 Coupe vehicles. Fuel injectors may have been installed without a damping component which is used to reduce vibration. Original — Risk if Unfixed
A damaged connection between the fuel line and the fuel rail could lead to a fuel leak and, in the presence of an ignition source, increase the risk of a fire.
Original — Remedy
BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel injectors and if a damping component is missing, the injectors and the fuel rail will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began December 18, 2020. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

SEAT BELTS

Manufacturer
BMW of North America, LLC
What Happened
The Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) in your seat belt is a safety feature that helps keep the seat belt webbing from getting tangled or caught. In certain vehicles, this retractor might not work as intended.
Risk if Unfixed
If the retractor fails, the seat belt might not lock in place during a crash, which could increase the risk of injury. You could be thrown around the vehicle or ejected from the seat, causing serious harm.
Free Fix
Your authorized BMW or Mini dealership will inspect the seat belt retractor for free and replace it if necessary, at no cost to you. You should schedule this repair as soon as you get the recall notice, to ensure your safety on the road.
