What Happened
The part that connects your steering wheel to your vehicle's wheels is called the steering center drag link. Yours might be faulty if you got it as a replacement part between 2009 and 2010.
Risk if Unfixed
If the shaft of the steering center tie rod shears off, you'll lose control of your vehicle instantly and without warning. This could lead to a serious accident, injury, or even death.
Free Fix
Your dealership will replace the tie rod with a new one, free of charge. You should schedule the repair as soon as you receive the recall notice, which is expected to go out on June 1, 2010.

FCP GROTON IS RECALLING CERTAIN STEERING CENTER DRAG LINKS, P/N 32 21 1 096 057, SOLD FROM DECEMBER 1, 2009 THROUGH APRIL 9, 2010 AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR MODEL YEAR 1995 THROUGH 2001 BMW 740I, 740IL, AND 750IL PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE SHAFT OF THE STEERING CENTER TIE ROD MAY SHEAR OFF.
Original — Risk if Unfixed
THIS CONDITION WOULD RESULT, WITHOUT WARNING, IN IMMEDIATE AND COMPLETE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Original — Remedy
FCP GROTON WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND THE TIE ROD WILL BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JUNE 1, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FCP GROTON TOLL-FREE AT 1-877-634-0063.

What Happened
The brake lamp switch in your vehicle is a small component that turns your brake lights on and off when you press the brake pedal. It could malfunction and stay stuck in the 'on' or 'off' position at any time.
Risk if Unfixed
If this happens, your brake lights will either not work or stay on all the time, regardless of whether you're pressing the brake pedal or not. This could make it harder for other drivers to know when you're slowing down, which could lead to a crash.
Free Fix
Your authorized dealer will inspect the brake lamp switch and replace it with a new, improved one at no cost to you. This repair is free.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE CONTROLLED BY A SWITCH ACTIVATED BY THE MOVEMENT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. THIS SWITCH COULD FAIL INTERNALLY, CAUSING IT TO REMAIN EITHER IN THE "BRAKE LAMPS OFF" POSITION OR IN THE "BRAKE LAMPS ON" POSITION.

IF THIS HAPPENS, THE BRAKE LAMPS EITHER WILL NOT OPERATE OR WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED, REGARDLESS OF BRAKE PEDAL POSITION.

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE EXISTING BRAKE LAMP SWITCH WITH AN IMPROVED SWITCH.
