The fuel pump in your vehicle is like a critical part of your heart, pumping gasoline to the engine. In some 2014-2015 BMW models, the fuel pump's protective coating could wear off, making it fail prematurely.
Risk if Unfixed
If the fuel pump fails, your engine could stall without warning, leaving you without power steering and brakes. This could make it hard to control your vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

The vacuum hoses and fittings in your vehicle's brake system help your power brakes work smoothly. In certain models, these hoses and fittings might not get enough lubrication, which could cause them to fail.
Risk if Unfixed
If the brake vacuum pump fails, you'll lose some of your braking power. This could make it harder to stop your vehicle, especially when you're driving downhill or in an emergency, and increase the risk of a crash.
Free Fix
Your BMW dealer will install a small locking ring to prevent the brake components from getting damaged, and the repair is completely free. You should schedule the fix as soon as you get the recall notice.

BMW North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 320i, 320xi, 328i, 328xi, 335i, 335xi, and ActiveHybrid3 vehicles manufactured October 20, 2011, to June 22, 2015, 2014-2015 328xi Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured March 21, 2013, to March 17, 2015, 2014-2015 328d, 328xd vehicles manufactured June 28, 2013, to April 21, 2015, and 2014-2015 328xd Sports Wagon vehicles manufactured July 5, 2013, to April 21, 2015. The affected vehicles may have been programmed with new software that inadvertently makes the front side marker lights inoperative in conjunction with the parking lights or the headlights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
